National Air Conditioning Appreciation Day is July 3rd

Theres nothing quite as a powerful as the solution to a major problem.  Air conditioning was one of those problems for the people on our planet for well over a thousand years.

Before the days of AC, ancient civilizations had developed their own methods for cooling down during hot summer days. The Persians had underground tunnels used to transport water for crops, allowing hot air to cool down the water and cold air to escape through the upper shafts, cooling down basements and inhabited rooms. The Romans used  this same design, which helped cool off the stone walls. The Roman emperors used ice to cool themselves off. Fans came on the scene during the Han Dynasty in Ancient China, and centuries later, the United States created the oscillating fans that led the way to the invention of AC.

In  1902, Willis Haviland Carrier was hired to find a way to control humidity in a printing plant. He discovered that when air passed through water-filled coils, the air cooled off as it moved through, helping maintain consistent ink alignments and paper dimensions. His invention birthed what became the Carrier Air Conditioning Company of America. Today, AC is vital to every residential home and automobile.  Air Conditioning Appreciation Day celebrates this remarkable invention and its storied history.
